When you register your car, RV SUV, sedan, motor boat, truck, or other vehicle, you should receive stickers or tags that you put on your license plate so that law officers know you have paid your taxes and fees. Some states also require their drivers to pass a smog certification test. This certificate shows that your auto does not release too many pollutants. Depending on where you live, you might need get this test performed annually or every few years. If you have expired stickers on your auto, then law officers might pull you over and ask if you have registered your car. If you have the identification number that shows you have renewed your tags for the car, then you might not have any problems. If you do not have a number, you have lost it, or it has passed its expiration date, then you might need to pay extra fees and fill out a new application so that your license is current. Some states have small fines for letting your vehicle expire, but you still might have to visit the DMV, get new tags, and then go to your local courthouse to show that you have registered your car and paid your taxes.
